Thoughts on Lent

Lent could be considered a time of spring-cleaning for Christians. The days are lengthening and the dirt of living becomes more apparent. It is time to make a fresh start. I was thinking about what happens when I clean. I have found that it is easy to get distracted when I clean things out. You know what I mean... dusting those shelves and stopping to look at pictures, then realizing you don’t know where the camera is and so stopping to look for it and running across the mail that isn’t opened and then stopping to read the letter from a friend and the phone rings and then it’s time to start supper. My mind wanders and I lose focus on the task at hand. It happens sometimes.

The spring-cleaning of Lent can suffer the same fate. We can lose focus and become distracted. This year, I invite you to hold yourself accountable to the task of the season, the spiritual cleaning of your life by undertaking the work of Lenten spring-cleaning with someone else. Perhaps you might pray together, maybe attend worship and talk about the sermon. Participate in midweek soup suppers and worship. Maybe it would simply be a phone call or a note to check in.

During Lent, we prepare for Easter by cleaning out and picking up, so that we can experience the freshness of God's promise. In our baptism we died with Christ, and because Jesus lives, we too will have new life. This year, don’t do your spring-cleaning alone. Rediscover this gift of grace with the help of a friend.

Sunday Worship Times

Our 8 am service in the Holy Trinity Chapel is small, personal, and intimate. Occasionally we  offer special music provided by the Adult Choir section leaders. The Lectionary readings (Old Testament, Psalm, New Testament and Gospel) are from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

Our 10:15 am service in the Sanctuary offers music provided by the Adult and Children's Choirs, covering a wide variety of sacred choral music. Occasionally we also have brass and string ensembles. Readings are from the NRSV. On the first Sunday of the month we have Fresh Worship, featuring a contemporary service and our Praise Band.

On Wednesday evenings, Feb. 24 –March 24, you are invited to join others for a simple meal of soup and bread at 6:00 in the Fellowship Hall. Our evening continues with a worship of song, prayer, God’s Word and a message that that will focus on the ways people of faith and the community of Holy Trinity are woven together. All are encouraged to attend.

Soup and bread are provided each week by members of the congregation. Look for a sign-up sheet in the atrium.

Service Etiquette: A Refresher

Please turn off cell phones and pagers before you enter the Chapel or Sanctuary

Please, no coffee or food in the Chapel or Sanctuary

Please do not leave or move around during Prayer

Please take crying children to the Nursery
(Nursery care is for infants to preschool only)

If you know you will need to leave the service early, please sit in the back row or  near an exit

Please, no talking or visiting during the service (except for a brief “hello” during the Peace)
Coffee hour is the time for socializing!

Saturday morning Men's Bible Study

Meets the first and third Saturday of the month at 8 AM.

The first Saturday of the month is held in the Fireside Room,
and the third Saturday includes breakfast, and is held in the Fellowship Hall.

Women’s Bible Study

It is exciting to gather to read and discuss the Word of God!  Our two Women’s Bible Studies are continuing. We are using the “Women of Faith Study Bible”.

Tuesday, March 2, 7 pm in the Fireside Room (study #52)
Saturday, March 6, 10 am in the Fireside Room
Tuesday, March 16, 7 pm in the Fireside Room (study #53)
Saturday, March 20, 10 am in the Fireside Room
 

You do NOT need the Study Bible to participate, and our lessons will be concurrent.  So, if you can’t make it to the Saturday meeting, come on Tuesday evening, and if Tuesday evening doesn’t work, come on Saturday morning!
