History of Holy Trinity |

|
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church was organized in Jan. 1947 with 80 charter members, by Rev. Theodore Foreid, as part of the United Lutheran Church in America. The first service was held on July 20, 1947 in the North Mercer Island Community Clubhouse. Sunday School began in August 1947, with 22 children and 4 teachers. In July 1948, the membership approved building our church, the present day chapel, for $33,000. This first building, which included the parish hall, was completed in Dec. 1948, and our first service was held on Dec. 5, 1948.

In 1948, the women of the church formed the first of many service organizations, KVB, named after Martin Luther's wife, Katherine Von Bora. A new parsonage on 86th St. was purchased in 1952 for $20,000. Rev. Foreid served as pastor until Nov. 1953, and in Feb. 1954 Rev. Charles Dion (Pastor Chuck) began a long term of service, having been called from Minnesota. He served until June 1969. During this time Holy Trinity experienced rapid growth: our annual budget increased from less than $10,000 to over $100,000 per year; assets increased from $100,000 to $450,000; and membership grew to approximately 800 communing members.
