Heathrow with British Food!

Heathrow with British Food!

Your HTLC mission team had great flights (although why Heathrow makes you go all over the place to ‘reenter’, then hides the gate number until the last minute – forcing us to be speedy to board, is a mystery).

Nonetheless, we all cleared all necessary check points and arrived in Berlin.  Our transportation to the Festival (Lost & Found spouse, Kristen) picked us up and gave us a great driving tour to Wittenberg.  (White asparagus is popular, there are wind farms, the topography is lovely and familiar, small town we drove through were charming).  The fact that this whole part of Germany was in East Germany for so long following the war was a revelation.  The fact that so many villages maintained their character was heartening.

Walking to morning prayer

Walking to morning prayer

We are working in the shadow of Castle Church, the very building where Luther nailed those 95 ‘talking points’.  We begin and end our day in morning and evening worship places with fantastic musicians – Tangled Blue http://tangledblue.com/, Alathea http://www.alathea.com/, Rachel Kurtz http://rachelkurtz.org/ and our hosts, Lost & Found http://www.speedwood.com/.

We have learned so much! Be prepared – we will be sharing all year 🙂 Tuesday was workshops, great food and conversations.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we head out on excursions to Warburg Castle, Erfurt, Leipzig and Eisleben.  Google them all and see why they are important to Luther and the reformation. (remember confirmation students, if you’re following the blog and report on it, you’re getting sermon note credit!).

Keep an eye on our facebook page and the Luther500 Festival facebook page (Daria is posting pictures in real time!).  And stay tuned … more to come. guten Nacht
